It likely comes as no surprise that I’m writing this note from my home, where I’m cooped up alongside my husband and children in these unsettling
times. There are a lot of unknowns, but two things are certain: I’m (gulp) a lousy homeschooler, and my husband should not have bought the bulk bag of peanut M&M’s on his grocery run. On a brighter note, I have learned to make bread in the Dutch oven (there’s a simple step-by-step tutorial at countryliving.com/easy-no-knead-breadrecipe), gone on more neighborhood walks (so much good chalk art!), and stumbled upon a new evening “porch party” tradition with my family, which has helped establish some semblance of a routine within these otherwise amorphous weeks. I’ve also found that
getting outside has been good for the soul. This issue is devoted to fi nding ways to embrace the outdoors at home, whether it’s beautifying the backyard or enjoying more meals on the patio. Because if you’ve gotta bloom where you’re planted, a little sunshine sure helps.
