Performance Mini - October-November 2020

I hope you’re all keeping well. Usually by now I would have had the chance to catch up with many of you and chat about all things MINI at the various summer shows that our scene enjoys. But alas, that hasn’t happened... yet. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll be able to salvage something from the show season before the end of the year – indeed, Martyn and fellow members of the Y REGister club recently attended an impromptu meet at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, so there is hope. Things have started moving elsewhere too; track days are open once again, the ever-impressive MINI CHALLENGE has returned (and is now on the TV as part of the BTCC programme, which is a good job considering public still aren’t allowed at the races yet), and going out for a drive just for the sheer thrill of it is no longer frowned upon by the lockdown police! In fact, I’m pleased to report that Neil Barden’s been up to his old tricks and has been out and about hunting for the best driving roads he can find in his GP2 once more. Lack of overnight accommodation has meant the need to stay local, but that hasn’t stopped him discovering the ‘Surrey Circuit’, which you can read all about on page 48.
