As January approaches, the slogan “New Year, New You” becomes impossible to escape. The truth is, there really is no “new you.” However, consistently employed positive changes in your life can lead to an upgraded version of yourself in the sense of being a more organized and focused person. (That doesn’t have the same catchy ring to it, so I don’t expect the phrase to go viral.) What I’ve always failed to understand is why people wait until the first of the year to start initiating change. The fact is, you may have a great plan of action, but one thing has always and will always remain the same: If you want to see results, you have to actually do the work. So if you’re living life vicariously through others, be it by watching videos or following their every move on social media, do not be surprised by lackluster results in the gym or at the office.
